What is a Purine Base
#1
Shocked
What is a Purine Base - Water Use in Gout Treatment - It Dissolves More Uric Acid
Just about anyone who suffers from gout knows that they should be drinking a lot of water every day. I will come on to why in a moment but first, for any gout sufferer who does not know the basics, here they are.

Water itself has a pH of 7.0 so it helps to raise the body pH to 7.0, or more when used in conjunction with other alkalizing agents.
Occasionally you will see bottled water labels state this 7.0 value, just about the only product in the supermarket that states its pH value.
Foods do have a pH value which means that some foods make the body more alkaline and some more acidic.
Why is a higher pH desirable for gout sufferers?
Because at a higher pH (i.e. the body is more alkaline) more uric acid is likely to be excreted too.
This is the second reason why gout sufferers need to drink lots of water.
There are Other Ways of Raising Ph
(a diet containing lots of alkaline effect foods and less acid effect foods, alkaline water, baking soda (bicarbonate of soda), but water is just about the cheapest. Writing about Gout Treatment is an interesting writing assignment. There is no end to it, as there is so much to write about it!

Therefore, the ''Trick'' in Curing Gout is to Remove Uric Acid
However, there are other natural ways of assisting the removal of uric acid, and just about the most popular, to judge from views of online polls I have seen, is drinking water. How does water work? Simply because a hydrated body will dilute uric acid and diluted uric acid is more likely to be excreted. This is the first reason why water use in gout treatment is so important. Keep your mind open to anything when reading about Gout Diet. Opinions may differ, but it is the base of Gout Diet that is important.

Will Any Water Do? Yes, but Some Kinds are Better Than Others are
Hard water is better than soft water because it contains more minerals. So too does mineral water. Minerals help maintain the body pH at 7.0 or greater. What is pH? This is a measurement of the acid/alkaline balance of the body. A pH of 7.0 or higher means a more alkaline body; below 7.0 and its more acidic. Wink

How much water a day? The quoted amount varies from 8 to 12 of 8 fl.ozs glasses a day. But perhaps the true amount for you is the amount of water you need to raise the body pH above 7.0. How can you know your pH level? pH test strips can be purchased online and delivered by mail. Type '' pH test strips" or "pH test stix" into a search box. Make sure you follow precisely the manufacturers' instructions in the accompanying leaflet. Accept the way things are in life. Only then will you be able to accept these points on Gout Treatments. Gout Treatments can be considered to be part and parcel of life.

How can you be what type of arthritis do you have? met your daily water target? Counting your score of water drunk every day is boring and prone to memory lapses. So use this tip. Every evening, or early in the morning, fill a jug with 8 x 8 fl.ozs of water (64 fl.ozs). Alternatively, the amount you have decided on, such as two jugs each of 4 x 8 fl.ozs of water and 4 x 8 fl.ozs of juice; or one jug of 10 x 8 fl.ozs of water and so forth. Use this source to make your other water based drinks that count as water intake. Ignorance is bliss they say. However, do you find this practical when you read so much about Purines?

Put the Jug the Refridgerator
Use only this jug for your drinking water and other relevant beverages. If you are traveling, or drink water at a place of employment, take your water supply in another container only from this jug. When refilling the jug in the evening (or in the early morning) make sure the jug is empty. This means that you drank your daily gout diet requirement without having to count every glass.

The study can be found online if you search "Beneficial effects of weight loss associated with moderate calorie/carbohydrate restriction, and increased proportional intake of protein and unsaturated fat on serum urate and lipoprotein levels in gout: a pilot study." Copy and paste this into a search engine search box and hit enter.

AFTER ONE YEAR About a year later, five of nine patients had no more gout attacks and three had just one attack.
So there was a further decrease in attack frequency overall.
One patient gained weight after the end of the study.
He must have given up on the diet.
He suffered three attacks over three months.
His blood uric acid levels rose with his weight.
We have actually followed a certain pattern while writing on Uric Acid.
We have used simple words and sentences to facilitate easy understanding for the reader.
In the study report, uric acid levels were expressed as mmol/l. In this article I have converted these mmol/l numbers to mg/dL, which is a more frequently used measurement. Penetration into the world of Excess Uric Acid proved to be our idea in this article. Read the article and see if we have succeeded in this or not!

And gout attacks? Results overall were expressed as a median. Before the study, participants had at least two attacks in the preceding four months. Median monthly attacks before the study were After it, attacks fell to The fall in the number of gout attacks occurred in all except one patient. The exception participant had shorter and less severe attacks. Eight of the 13 did not have a gout attack during the four month study period, although as mentioned, they had all had at least two in the previous four months and, as noted above, the median was 1 a month, or one attack a fortnight, (every two weeks).

This study, based on the Zone diet, did have a positive effect on markers of insulin resistance: triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol) fell. HDL cholesterol ("good" cholesterol) did not fall. But my purpose in this article is mainly to describe its direct effect on uric acid levels and gout attacks.

After four months on this diet the effects on uric acid levels and gout attacks were quite impressive. Weight loss and uric acid levels Weight loss over the period was almost 17lbs ( 7kg) i.e. at a rate of about 1lb a week. All but one of the patients lost weight. The median uric acid (UA) fall was 7mg/dL.Another very interesting finding was that a more elevated blood uric acid level at the start of the study, meant a large fall of blood uric acid by the end of it. Uric acid levels normalised in 7 of 12 patients who had raised levels of uric acid (UA) before the study. We consider that we have only touched the perimeter of information available on Excess Uric Acid. There is still a lot more to be learnt!

Note Especially that the Mean Uric Acid (UA) Fall Was
7mg/dL. In a couple of cases it fell by 2 mg/dL and by 5mg/dL respectively. Hyperuricemia, (excess uric acid), which may lead to gout, is reckoned to exist if the UA levels exceed 2 mg/dL (men), and 0 mg/dL (women). The usual UA target in gout treatment is 0 mg/dL (somewhat less in women) because at this level the MSU crystals, formed mainly from uric acid may dissolve. (It is the immune system's response to these crystals, which it regards as foreign bodies, which causes the pain and inflammation of gout). Perhaps you may not have been interested in this passage on Excess Uric Acid. In that case, please don't spread this feedback around! Smile

Were the study patients taking long term medications, such as Allopurinol, for their gout? They were not. They were only taking medications for gout attacks. The study report did not say how much water they drank. Most gout sufferers know that drinking lots of water helps to remove uric acid. In gout treatment there are always caveats. The study was small. Only 13 male gout sufferers. The study lasted just four months, although there were follow-up results after one year (median). The researchers noted a connection between weight loss and a fall in uric acid levels in another study and expected the nutrient proportions (40:30: contributed to the uric acid fall. They thought that the dietary measures caused the desired improvement in insulin sensitivity. Perfection has been achieved in this article on Gout Sufferers. There is hardly any matter left from this article that is worth mentioning.Perfection has been achieved in this article on Gout Sufferers. There is hardly any matter left from this article that is worth mentioning.

The results were sufficiently impressive to give hope and encouragement to any gout sufferer who tries this diet as accurately as possible. The study was conducted in 1999. Unfortunately it has not been followed up by a much larger one designed on the same lines. If conducted, such a study would expand our knowledge of natural gout treatment, perhaps considerably. A natural gout cure is what most gout sufferers want. If there is the slightest possibility of you not getting to understand the matter that is written here on Excess Uric Acid, we have some advice to be given. Use a dictionary!
